On Cho'gall alliance we have setup a global channel that we use to get word around about horde attacks and for newbies to call out for help when they get ganked. But a recent faction change has decided to hold the channel for randsom of 6k gold by placing a password on the channel... He is a known troll and is causing disruption to the game.

Channel is called dispatch.

I'm sure you all know about Cho'gall alliance, this channel is our one small advantage against the horde as it is used as a global channel by 90% of the alliance.

What would be our chances of getting the password removed by a GM if we reported it ?
or does the password drop once the offender logs off ?

I realize this must seem silly but the channel is established and has been in use for quite some time.

Once the person in the moderator spot drops - it should pass to someone else, yes.

These work very much like IRC channels and sometimes have much the same challenges :)
