Is an inappropriate acronym ok?

I've seen 2 guilds on our server with [inappropriate acronym removed] in their names, and I wondered if this is acceptable? It isn't exactly cussing, but we all know what it means. I don't know if it qualifies as masking profanity or not, or if they get around it because after all, it's just a couple of letters.

Our policies cover both clear and masked language and though to a certain degree some of the expressions used may be deemed acceptable in normal conversations some certainly are not.

If you find characters with such acronyms in their names feel free to submit an in-game petition or write to wowgm@blizzard.com and one of our Game Masters will review it.

I feel like [Removed]is a pretty well defined and generally accepted to stand for what we all know it stands for.

Yes, but at the same time, Maeby, the acronym is truly becoming part of our everyday vocabulary. There are several words that 10 years ago would be considered taboo but are now used on a continual basis in radio, TV, public speaking, etc. . . .

I've found that it seems you have to keep reporting issues until you find the "right GM". That bothers me
some. It seems like a huge unnecessary tax on the ticketing system. I know that all GMs are human, and subject to their own perspective on matters, but it seems that there isn't much of a defined policy when it comes to some things.

I'm afraid your perception regarding what is happening is incorrect. It isn't a matter of reporting until you find the "right GM". Naming issues are not always black and white and the initial report isn't necessarily going to result in a name change. Names are subjective at best, especially when it comes to words, phrases or acronyms that may be borderline mainstream.

We do have policies and procedures to handle such issues, they are not subjective to a Game Masters own perspective. Unfortunately, I am unable to provide further insight into our internal workings and can only encourage you to report names that you feel violate our policies. If the name is not changed and you think an error has occurred please write to wowgmfeedback-us@blizzard.com and your petition and the actions of the Game Master can be reviewed further.

Letters on the screen have absolutely no impact on your life in anyway.

You are welcome to believe that, Justin, however, you agreed to abide by our Terms of Use when you created the account and at each client update.

This game is teen rated and because of that fact we strive to maintain a certain environment. Parents use the ESRB rating of a game to determine if they will or will not allow their child to play that game, there are also many people out there who simply don't want to play a game where such activity is acceptable.

If you wish to pursue your type of humour you'll want to find a game rated M for Mature.

Chop chop pal! We wouldn't want anyone having fun in a game!

On the contrary, Justin, we very much do want to provide a fun and fair environment for all. Thus we have a specific rating for the game and provided specific rules that follow that ratings guidelines.

Now as you pointed out, Justin, you very well may be able to look up questionable names with the Armory. Please note that the Armory is not a very reliable method of research for these issues as names can exist there long after they have been deleted or changed as the result of an in-game report.

If you do come across a name that you feel may violate our Terms of Use, again that document that you agreed to abide by, feel free to report it via an in-game petition or by writing to wowgm@blizzard.com.
