having just started playing wow after an extended period of time i didnt think anything of it so i clicked the link and it looked legit and appeared to be the battlenet site. another weird thing that i recall getting a message in game that didnt look like the normal whisper color reminding me about the beta so thats why i went back to the email. the email address it was from is "Blizzard Entertainment (WoWAccountadmini@blizzard.com)" and being that it was @blizzard.com i figured it was legit. So i downloaded the installer thing that gets the specs off of your computer and sent but it wouldnt go through so i thought nothing of it and logged for the night, only to wake up to find that i was taken to the cleaners, everything was gone including the greys off of my lvl 8 alt. luckily i called blizzard and they opened a ticket and everythings back now. :) the only issue i had was having to sit on hold for about an hour. but i just wanted to make sure that this was where the problem originated, i have sense got the authenticator, run all my system scans and did a system restore so hopefully this wont ever happen again, ill def be alot more careful from this.

Well, one can never be 100% sure, but given your scenario I'd say, yes - that's a very likely source.

You may want to scan a bit more - make sure you have the launcher open with a bit of gibberish in the text fields. It's entirely possible to have multiple infections on the same machine.

The one above is a phish.

One can check beta status directly from Account Management - no email is really needed for that.
