Cannot update client

I have been unable to get the client to update to the newest release, every time I launch it just goes to the patch screen, patchs for over an hour, tells me to uninstall and download the new client, I have tried twice to get it working, and it has failed on all occasions, sticking me in an endless loop of downloading and patching and asking for a new client. So unless a new client has been released in the last five minutes, I suspect something is amiss.
