Item Recovery

A few months ago I started playing WoW again, hoping to get back into raiding. When I pulled my character screen up all my gear was gone from most of my characters and the gold, so, I immediately contacted Blizzard's support team for help on the matter. It took a week or so of back and forth contact with GM's and e-mail before my problem was "resolved." By resolved I received a minuscule amount of gold and a pat on the back, they told me they could not restore all of my gear because they did not have it saved anymore, or something to that effect. My main character is my Protection warrior, I'm left with six pieces of my raiding gear and I really can't do anything about it, I've been sitting with a ticket open for roughly 24 hours now and no GM has contacted me back, I just had a couple questions on the process one goes through when investigating an account and why I feel punished because someone through wrongful means got into my account and walked away with all my hard work. I appreciate any help given on this matter.

I'll provide what answers I can, Varmag.

Basically, when you report your account as compromised the case is forwarded to our Account Investigation Team. They look into what may have happened on the account.

Much of what can be done depends on time. Though our logs are fairly extensive and we can usually tell a great deal of what happens on a character and account the information that we deal with is fairly immense and though we are able to retain much of this data for a time it is simply too great to retain for long. Also, data storage, being what it is, is not always 100%, there are times when some information is simply not recoverable.

The biggest factor is usually time though.

If the records still exist for when the compromise happened we will look through those and verify what happened and what items/gold, etc... were lost. We also look into where the items/gold may have gone and address that issue, taking what actions are appropriate, if that didn't happen already.

If we can verify what the loss we will work on restoring the items/gold. In some cases we may be able to restore all items that were lost and in other cases only a partial restore is possible. Unfortunately if we are unable to confirm any loss and none of the items that were sold, deleted, disenchanted are verifiable, we may not be able to do anything to help.

Please let me know what other questions you may have and I'll do my best to answer them.

There's no possible way to recover it from the in-game data base that is the equipment manager? I mean, the gear is there, and some of it was still on my hot bar. If not, I understand, I'm just curious.

The equipment manager and icons on your hotbar only indicate that you had the item at one time. Unfortunately it doesn't indicate what was happened to the items, if they were deleted, sold or disenchanted.

Sorry, Varmag.
