Missing RaF/RealID on brother's account

After having my brother's trial (granted via Recruit-a-friend) expire, we activated his account by purchasing a digital copy of Vanilla WoW. We've encountered a few problems with this.

1. Buying the digital copy seems to have created another account under his email address and he is unable to access the character he created during the trial
2. We are unable to access Recruit-a-Friend features such as the Friend Summoning and the extra exp.
3. He is unable to use the Real ID feature. He is however able to trade with other players on this account so I'm fairly certain this is not due to a restriction on the newly activated account.

Any assistance with this issue would be greatly appreciated.
