The Auction House is a purely player driven economy, Lad.
Anyone can ask anything they like for an item. Now, that said - doesn't mean they'll necessary find a buyer :).
The Auction House can be a game onto itself, some players speculate and make a nice profit - others, well....there is a reason it's called speculation!
Remember, while they have every right to ask whatever they like for an item, YOU have the right to say, no thanks!
