So I noticed the recent change to having to enter my authenticator key when I log into the WoW Forums. I read the news article about it and was under the impression that I would only have to enter it every once in awhile. Now I'm getting a little sick of having to enter my authenticator EVERY time I want to post on the forums... why? :(

It's still dumb imo, I don't care if I get hacked and someone uses my account to post on the forums... who cares as long as they can't get my stuff off of my account lol

I'm sorry you feel that way, Meyvn. One would hope that you care about your fellow players. When an account is compromised the person doing it sometimes logs onto the forums and attempts to trick others into following links to spoof sites.

Someone without an Authenticator who loses access to their account will usually find out pretty quick that their account has been compromised and take the necessary steps but you, with an Authenticator, would likely not know that your log in information has been stolen. Those who compromise accounts do everything they can to acquire additional victims so even if they can't get to your characters they very well may use your posting avatar to post keylogger links or spoof sites.

Also keep in mind that we usually temporarily suspend actions found posting malicious links, this usually allows the registered user on the account to regain access to it but if the account continues to post malicious links after the initial suspension the account may be permanently suspended from the forums.

Overall, I hope this can be viewed positively. It is a bit of an inconvenience, certainly, but if it prevents additional players from being compromised, I'd say it is worth it.
