Friend benefits not working-Blizz help please

Here's the skinny: I recently was invited by a friend to play WOW, via the invite-a-friend email thing. I accepted and we played on the free trial. Then I upgraded to the full account. After some mishaps, I got that account linked to my friend - but not really. As of now, I am on my free month that comes with buying the game, but my friend and I aren't receiving the promised benefits, namely x3 xp and summoning. On battlenet I am technically linked to his account, so why aren't we getting these benefits? I was told that I had to wait until my free month was up to start getting triple xp, summing, etc. - is this true? If so, why? Why would our accounts be linked for the trial, unlinked for no reason during the free month, and then relinked later?
Could someone please explain this to me? Preferably a Blizz employee?

It sounds as if you created a new account rather than upgrading the Recruit-a-Friend trial, Meloku. I encourage you to call our Billing department during normal business hours so that they can look into this for you and attempt to link the two accounts manually. :)
