Blacklisted for spamming or reporting spam?

Recently I received an e-mail from wowaccountadmin@blizzard.com that stated:

'According to the report of many players, we found that the account published spam information in the game which harassed other users seriously. This action has violated the EULA.'

'As too many customers' complaints, the IP range above has been blacklisted.'

What exactly is 'publishing spam information'? Does that mean I was reported for spamming, or was I reporting too many spammers? If it's the former, I would have to strongly disagree with the conclusion that I am a spammer.

If it's the latter, what exactly is considered 'spamming'? I report players that post the same message 3 or more times consecutively in Trade chat, players that advertise gold selling websites, and players that link me to websites with claims I can play the Cataclysm beta. If that's not spamming, what is?

In addition, the wording of the message implies that the blacklist occurred as a result of the quantity of player reports. There is no reference to evidence or investigation by any Blizzard employees. If true, this is absolutely ridiculous. A customer should not be blacklisted because other customers filed UNVERIFIED reports!

Thank you. I feel quite foolish - never thought I would be caught by a phisher.

I''m with Pahanda. No reason you should feel foolish, some of those e-mails are fairly convincing, especially if you haven't had any experience with them.

The following post covers ways of confirming if an e-mail is from us or it is a phishing attempt. Please check it out.
