Account hacked, confused

I had my account hacked a few days ago, and my gear and gold was all stolen. I logged off and reported it first thing, and then changed my password. I then logged back onto the game and opened a ticket. I waited for about an hour, and the ticket box in the top right of my screen changed to say my ticket had been escalated. After a little longer, I had to go so I logged off. Later that day, I came back and tried to log onto my account, but it said my username/password was wrong. Tried it on the website too but also couldn't log on. I think the only reason I can post on here is cause I left a window open that was already logged on. I'm not exactly sure what the progress is on my resoration now and I'm a little worried. I just had a couple questions. If I open a ticket and log off with the ticket open will the GMs still get it and be able to fix the problem? Also, if they had got the ticket, is it possible that the GM changed the password on my account while they investigate it?

This was reported a bit less than a day and a half ago. A password reset would be a normal part of this.

Did you get the latest password? You may wish to also check your spam filters if you haven't seen it.

Ok, it was in my spam box, it was just surrounded by a bunch of other fake emails from phished blizzard websites, so I was suspicious at first, but it said us.battle.net in the URL box so I clicked the link it gave me. However, it said ticket not found in the middle. I entered a new password anyways, but it just said that an error has occured.

Those do expire, Cerkoryn. Check in just a few minutes, you should have another.

Awesome, it worked. Thanks for your help. One last question though, should I avoid playing while the investigation is underway? Maybe other characters on the account other than my main?

As long as no characters were transferred, it's fine to play them as you can.
