Recruit a Friend mount

I'm wondering, since there's a free month that comes with opening a new account, if it is possible to just slap a gamecard on the account in order to pickup the mount, instead of waiting a month, then buying 3, or then having to put on the gamecard.. or wait 1 month... put on another... etc.
Can I apply a gamecard while the free month is running out to gain access to the rewards?

Just so long as you use a form of prepaid time for the newly recruited account, be it a game card from your local retailer or pre-paid time off the Blizzard Store, you should be eligible to redeem the mount immediately. A cautionary tale, though, you must be using the Recruit-a-Friend program to able to retrieve this mount, or get any of the other bonuses offered through the program. If you are linking the accounts from the same computer, be sure to log out of the first Battle.net account after sending the invitation. This will avoid the second account being unintentionally linked to that first account's same Battle.net account.
