Real ID and Parental Controls Questions

I have attempted more then once to enable the Parental Controls on my wow accounts I have 2. I am not receiving the emails. Since this Real ID situation seems like it will be implemented soon I have no choice but to turn on Parental Controls, even though I'm nearly 45 years old, so that I cannot even by accident use Real ID. Once this change goes into effect I will not be posting on the forums. Thankfully I have not even attempted to use Real ID in-game but I wonder is it turned on by default? If it is can i turn it off? Since I cannot get parental controls to work, and everyone who has the right addon can see my full name, if it is in fact on.

Oh and BTW (from your own Code of conduct)

Thanks,
Kelyssel and a host of other alts all of whom dislike Real ID

Now, not only has Blizzard reactivated it without my consent at some point in the last day (because I certainly didn't go back to allow the feature), but I can't get the email token needed to turn RealID off once again.

We didn't reactivate anything without your consent, Gravefury, I'm not certain why but it wasn't intentionally done. In fact, I don't show that you have Parental Controls enabled on this account, which is why you are unable to get the e-mail you need to adjust your parental controls. I do see that it was set up at one point because I see some of the changes you made to it near the end of June but I can not find where it may have been canceled or deactivated. I may not be able to see everything though since this is an area Billing helps with.

Can you try setting them up again to see if that works?

The implementation of the new forum which incorporate the announced Real ID changes is planned to be implemented shortly before Cataclysm is released. Depending on your definition of soon I'm not certain if the word applies but it will still be several months.

Not completely true. You would need an addon installed as well, your information can not by divulged by using the standard User Interface. Any and all claims to the contrary are being investigated.

When attempting to set up your Parental Controls are you receiving an error? I don't show that you have them enabled on this account.

Correct, posts containing personal information about "other" players. If the announced change goes in as originally planned then you will be notified that your real name will appear if you choose to post. You may and have always been able to provide personal information about yourself. This will not display any other personal information.

Same here. Real ID was reactivated.

That is strange. Did you set up your parental controls around the 23 of June, Nightelfspy?

Yes, June 23

Hmm, it appears at least one other made changes or set up the Parental Controls that day as well. It could be that there was an issue on that day. I'll see what I can find out.

Can you try setting them up again, Nightelfspy? See if it lets you.

The parental control page has not sent me an e-mail and that was over an hour ago I requested it. The old one says it is expired.

Are you setting up your Parental Controls again, Nightelfspy, or are you just trying to get the PC Token e-mail?

I think you should have someone look into why the parental control deactivated in the first place.

From what I've been able to find it looks like there was a temporary issue that seems to have affected some people who may have been updating their information at the time. Though changes were initiated it seems that not all of them were saved. I believe that is what happened. Any new additions or changes should be saved now as the issue appears to have been corrected shortly after it was found.

I don't even pretend to know anything about LUA scripting, however; when I ran the following script

Which would have told you your own name. Unless you are using an addon that is designed to relate that information to others no one else should be able to find out your real name. As with all addons you should only use those that are trusted.

It's addons that your RealID Friends run that you need to be concerned about, from my understanding. Think I managed to disable mine. Confusing interface is confusing. :-/

Auryk and I tested it fairly extensively and even as Real ID friends that only information I could get was my own. As I have said before though these rumours are being investigated, our Developers will look into any verified issues with the system.

Any possible bug or exploit that is found can be e-mailed to wowgm@blizzard.com, it can be passed on from there.

Vrak, what I don't understand about this whole RealID crap is that it shows other people your full name that is registered on your account, but you're not even allowed to see it on your own battle.net page. Kind of a catch 22 IMO. Do you have any insight into this?

Your Account Management page does show your name, it does not display all of your account information though. The only other people who should be able to see your name is those you have invited to be friends with you thourgh the Real ID system.

Not counting the changes to the forum that were announced this week and aren't slated for release for a few months yet, the Real ID friends system through Battle.net and in-game is intended to be used by people who know each other in the real world and who you trust with that information.

There have been rumours of addons that use the information but thus far it seems that you must have the addon as well for any information to be available. Our Developers will certainly look into any reports of addons using this information and take what steps are necessary.
