Real ID

Are you trying to invite each other while in-game, Ragshada? That is currently the only method I am aware of. Simply open up your social panel (O by default) and select your friends tab. Click add and input your friends e-mail address. Once they accept you will be Real ID friends.

You may want to try resetting your User Interface.
