Please remove my RL name from within the game. If I enable RealID then you can by all means put it in.

All accounts are now defaulted to RealID enabled. As far as I know, the only way to disable it is if you put on parental controls.

It's not the best solution, but I consider it a quick fix until there's a better system in place.

(And you need the script that you mentioned, or an addon with the script in it, for your name to show, and then only to you as far as I know. Someone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong)

Out of curiosity, has anyone tried the script (with someone they trust and are not Real ID friends with) to see if someone else can see the person's name with the script?

Yes, I have tested it myself and no it isn't visible to anyone but me. Even my someone who is on my Real ID friends list can not see my name if I use that command.

Minyin, if you wish to completely disable Real ID I'd encourage you to set up your Parental Controls for the account.

Folks, the command that is creating this uproar simply returns your name to you. No one else is able to see that information unless they have access to your account. If your already compromised they already have access to that information. The only way the command can be misused is if you are using a malicious addon.

As with all addons make sure you are weary of the source and what it is supposed to do. I am not certain what the command was originally intended for but if you wish to see it disabled you my post in the Suggestion forum and provide your feedback for our Developers and Community Managers.

Also please understand that there are a great many rumours regarding these matters, few of them true, most of them exaggerated simply to cause a reaction.

For discussions about Real ID please post in the General Forum.
