Hi,

My account has been banned for selling gold for real life money and is now under investigation, i was wondering what the status of this investigation is? my account was hacked 2 weeks ago by gold sellers and transfered to Mal'ganis where I believe that it was used to sell gold. I have been trying to talk to GM's for days and waiting for emails back from account admin but i feel like I'm running into a wall. My main characters name is Ellicit, which was the character transfered. This entire process just seems stupid since a week ago my account was returned to me (after being hacked) and now im being banned?

Please at least confirm that my account is in a queue to being returned? and not just put in a ban pile that won't be looked at?

Well, I see this, and that account is banned, it has nothing to do with this phrase

banned for selling gold for real life money

Indeed, that is commonly a phrase used in phishing emails.

You will want to email Account Admin and ask this be reviewed. They can be reached at [email protected].

Did you find the source of the compromise, by the way? If that isn't determined, the chances of this repeating are VERY high.

That one may be legitimate, what worried me was the way you phrased it above.

To check ANY email, look at the internal routing headers.

The FROM line in the body can say anything they want it to easily and should never be trusted.

An authenticator should keep them out, yes.

Ok, well what do i do now then? I know the email is real and my account is actually banned, i've sent several emails to [email protected], I have never been banned before and now I have permanent ban? This is causing me a lot of stress since i've had this account since the beginning of the burning crusade and was hoping to continue playing it into Cataclysm, but this is just getting really frustrating now.

I do see your email - matter of fact, I see 4 of them.

It may be a few days before they can get back to you on this, Sippn. These are dated 7/12.

Things of this nature, unfortunately, tend to accompany compromises.

That is why it is so very important to keep your account secure - it avoids all this unpleasantness that can ensue. They don't steal these to do 'nice' things with them.

I'd recommend going over security with all your guildmates as this is a golden opportunity. It brings home how one person can affect many others.

We simply cannot do Account Administration investigations from here.
