Very concerned about the new talent trees

I see the "31 point talent" trees are posted and so this morning I was kind of excited. But as of now, I'm very concerned. Honestly I've been skeptical of this revamp going in the "less is more" direction, but I've held back from saying much. I was hoping for "more interesting talents" in return for the loss of overall points (which were just damage/healing/mitigation modifiers). However, from looking at the initial Paladin talent trees, I can't say I'm impressed.

Just looking at the Ret Paladin tree alone you can see there are 17 talents to "choose from" and of those, 13 talents are just "damage increasers" using one mechanism or another, whether it be straight damage increase, increased crit, or some sort of proc or "when x occurs, y will by increased by z".

Of what's left over you have:

Pursuit of Justice: A movement modifier. (not a new talent)
Judgements of the Wise: Mana replenishment (not a new talent)
Repentance: An incapacitator (not a new talent)
Divine Retribution: A new talent that is a work in progress (not sure what it is because I am not in beta).

Of these, only one is an activatable ability and it is neither new nor interesting. Of these, only one is a new talent (Divine Retribution).

So, what is so "interesting" and "100% win" about a talent tree like that? I remember in both prior expansions the sense of "oooh" and "wow, I really want to try that out" when I first glimpsed the talent trees (even in their beta forms). But now, I just can't get really too excited. How could I be? There is essentially nothing new or expanding about it. After all, shouldn't an expansion provide a sense of newness and expansion to the play possibilities?

I've tried to break down the Ret Paladin tree because I think it is a good example of boring. It's possible, even likely, that there will be some interesting choices when you get down to the nitty gritty of maximizing ret paladin dps but overall the sense I'm left with is the vast majority of talents are just damage increasers of one sort or another. All along I thought this is exactly what they were trying to get rid of. I'm really confused now.

So, to sum it up there is functionally very little that is new or interesting about the Paladin Ret tree as it is found today July 14th. The tree boils down to damage increasers, a passive movement buff, a passive mana regen, a single target cc, and a NYI talent of unknown specifics. It's just not that interesting to me. Hmmm... I haven't broken it down yet here, but the Paladin prot and holy tree leave me with a similar "meh" feeling. I will still play my Paladin, but I can't say I'm really excited about Cata from this perspective.

And YES I KNOW this is just beta!!! I know things are subject to change!!! Great!!! That's why I am giving feedback right now. I really hope Blizz is holding back a lot of pizazz. I also hope the other class trees aren't like what I've seen of the paladin tree. Thanks for reading, I hope Blizzard really reconsiders what they are doing.

Thank you for taking the time to voice your concerns.

In the interest of consolidating discussion threads could you post that to this discussion thread here?
