For the Linux fans out there, that would be like grabbing an i686 architecture package and trying to run it on an i386 machine - not going to work. For a more current picture, a mac app on a Windows machine, or an x64 app on an x86 machine. Possibly along the lines of activation for Windows where you "lock" your software in to the system you have, and if you replace it or even replace enough parts, you need to re-activate it (which can be a pain at times)
That said, I can't see any reason why a new system woudl have any issues running the game client, barring you investing in a Mac or wandering away from a Windows based system and experimenting with Linux, or another open source type system.
