Friend's account email changed

This may end up being a long shot, but we'll see. Also it's pretty late at night (where I live) to be posting this.

A friend of mine quit Warcraft sometime between December of 2008 and January of 2009. He hasn't played since. This was also before you were required to tie your WoW account to a Battle.net account, so his WoW account is still standalone. Today he texted me saying he thought to check on his account ("A moment of weakness" since he's reluctant to resubscribe anyway) and he wasn't able to merge his WoW account with the username and password he remembered.

Password recovery didn't work because the system said that the given username and email address aren't linked. The other method of password recovery which asks for the box serial number didn't work either, but I'm not sure why.

It could be memory loss since it's been a while, but he has email from Blizzard about his account, so we think it's possible that his account was at some point compromised and the email changed. I'm pretty sure you couldn't change WoW account names, also. Maybe you could.

If you want his user name or email addresses I can offer them, but maybe not on a public forum. The addresses for his Battle.net account and WoW account are the same, both Yahoo! accounts. His main character was Bulstrode, an Undead Rogue on Onyxia US. If you need any more information I can probably get it to you.

If you are able to tell us, we want to know if any play time has been registered or the email address or password to that account has been changed in the last year and a half. Actually, it would also help to know if the account is tied to another Battle.net account already, because that's possible. I don't know what of that you can disclose. Like I said if you want more proof of account ownership I can get it to you.

I can't promise dude will resub if you get his account back, but I think he's kind of interested in the expansion, and if he ever wanted to play again it would really suck if he had to buy four boxes and not have access to his only high-level character, which isn't even level 70.

Thanks!

This one is complex - and old.

Your friend is going to need to followup on this. Not only was the email changed (and yes, it appears there was malicious access), that malicious access got this account banned.

Given the email is wrong and he may not remember details - the best first stop may be Billing. He may still need to work out the ban with Account Administration.
