Account Issue - Adding Time

What I am failing to understand is how an account with a level 80, thousands of gold, etc can be considered a trial account? The account has both BC and WOTLK associated with it, why is it making me buy them again to play? I just want to put this time card on the account.
Well for starters, you cannot play on an account that wasn't originally yours.
Your friend cannot gift, trade, sell - or otherwise allow you access. Accounts are non-transferrable.
