There is likely damage to the account, but it seems your password change kept them out afterwards.
I would highly recommend getting any damages followed up on NOW, even if you decide to leave for awhile. Promptly reported compromises typically have good results, age can play a factor in how much - if anything - could be restored at a later date.
I'd also recommend you take the normal security precautions. Somehow they obtained your password and ID and finding that out is vital to this not repeating. Even if an account goes inactive - that is no barrier to them re-activating and abusing it if they can.
