WTB Trade Channel Moderators

I wonder if Blizzard ever monitors trade chat? Leaving it up to the players with a poor reporting system is NOT a very bright idea.

I really wish Cataclysm would bring in a new age of moderators to the trade channel.

I have cancelled three accounts so far and am down to just one. I just don't need the headache of trying to explain the garbage in ALL major cities trade channel.

I'm sorry, Angella, but we are simply unable to actively moderate the trade channel for both factions on the 200+ realms. Our policies are reactive in nature and they do work, when appropriately used.

If the person is spamming their message please use the report spam feature by right clicking on their name and selecting "Report Spam". If you and the other members of your realm do that it will go a long way to curbing that kind of behavior.

For other violations such as inappropriate language, please use the in-game petitioning system. Yes, it can take awhile for the report to be addressed but we do look into each report and take what actions are appropriate. We do not usually suspend someone immediately, it depends on the violation, but repeat offenders that are reported to us will eventually learn that such behavior is not tolerated.

The major issue we see is that some claim that they report someone when they haven't, this is usually very damaging to the perception of the person who was reported as well as the others in the channel. The person "reported" is never actioned, they never even get a warning so they tend to believe that their chat is permitted. The others in the channel see the same person day after day and think that we don't do anything either.

I can only recommend that you use the tools available to you. Though leaving the channel is an option you shouldn't have to, but may take a concerted effort to rein in such behavior. I can promise you though if you do, things will get better.

If you believe our policies or methods should be changed you are welcome to post in the Suggestion forum.

Q u o t e:
Blizzard doesn't monitor any kind of chat. There are just too many channels, too many realms, and too many hours in a day. They rely on player reports.

Though true, we do mostly rely on player generated reports and the use of the Report Spam feature for "spam" related offenses, that doesn't mean that we are completely opposed having the occasional presence on a realm.

It has been known to happen in the past and will likely continue to occur to some small degree. The fact is, you may never know where we'll pop up. :D
