I was playing a different MMO when I came across a website containing a wow advertisment. I can recall it saying "enter the world" and I immediately got hooked.
A friend of mine was in the beta. I was an old EQ and MUD player, and I wasn't interested at first... until I actually saw the game world for myself. I got into the closed beta, fell thoroughly in love with World of Warcraft, and I'm still playing to this day.
