Although they do take into consideration qualifications and criminal records, once they've trimed the few that didn't have a chance at the job, they are left with easily 50% of the applicants. To further cut, they will use ANYTHING to dump your Curriculum Vitae in the garbage.
From racial discrimination to facebook images, they will try to find any single reason to not pick you so that they are left with only "perfect employees" to interview. You might end up being better than the guy next to you but if they have to cut one of you, they will most likely keep the one with a girlfriend, a small business, a 6 pack and tons of friends on facebook rather than the one who plays WoW and has a history of multiple posts on an online forums showing that he cares maybe a bit too much.
Seems unfair ? Which one would YOU pick if you were in that situation ? The guy who seems to have a perfectly balanced normal life or the guy who has nothing but his game outside of work ? And even if you do have a life outside of work and WoW, how do you prove it to your employer if you're never going to have an interview in the first place...
Sure, there is always "that guy" who used his raid leading experience to get a 6 figure job in NY as a project manager but "that guy" wasn't a 10/12 ICC leader. He was a Top 100, server first, etc.
Wake up, WoW is not a good thing for your real career if you're shooting for anything with actual responsibilities.
