In all of that time I have seen Blizzard come up with some terrible ideas. I mean some are bad and others are just really bad, like faction changes. In Blizzard's quick grab for profits they ruined server balances across dozens of realms. The Celestial steed was probably one of the best ideas Blizzard had from a marketing perspective, but once again shows their hunger to squeeze what profits they can out of their loyal customer base. I am left to assume that Blizzard once again has some type of marketing strategy motivating the RealID launch.
Blizzard shows little regard for the drastic and far reaching effects of their quick grab for profits, as shown by the faction change promotion. Now they are giving out YOUR and MY personal information. When I started playing this game, Blizzard assured me of the confidentiality and security of my personal information. They lied. Now I know who you are.
Next time I get angry at someone, all I have to do is search for their RealID. It should be easy enough to do if you ever decide to post on the forums. I can simply match up your real name to your character name from the forums, trick you into revealing your realID, or find your facebook profile by tricking someone you know into giving it to me. Then I'll know who you are, and I will have my revenge!
By using YOUR personal information in their marketing strategy, they expose YOU to risks and harassment. This is totally unnecessary and very foolhardy.
If I choose to give my RealID to a friend, i do it so I can contact that person on alts. This is the ONLY valuable function of RealID, and it is totally voluntary. Now, YOU will be FORCED to reveal your personal information TO EVERYONE IN THE FORUMS.
My Information was guaranteed to be kept confidential. Blizzard has broken that agreement with millions of its customers. Are YOU going to let them do it??
