Opt Out of RealID for fourms?

I have opted out of the RealID for WoW (disabled all the features). Will we be able to opt out for the fourms, too? If not, this is a serious breech of trust on Blizzards part. I dont want my real name used. I dont want someone pissed at me for my opinion tracking me down in real life, because lets face it, there ARE some crazy folks out there and if Bliizard goes through with this, then they are responsible if someone does do something crazy.

If it does go through, I will have to rethink if playing World of Warcraft or Starcraft II will be worth the extra exposure. Right now, I am thinking no. There are other options. LOTRO looks really pretty and is going F2P soon, and Star Wars The Old Republic is also coming soon too.

Even on facebook, I have everything set to friends only and locked down as far as I can go. I value my privacy and dont want Blizzard to share it with the world because they are trying to emulate Congress by NOT paying attention to what the public wants, and going ahead with something that will destroy the country anyways.

After this change goes live (you can refer to this thread for more information: http://forums.battle.net/thread.html?topicId=25626109041), your name will only be revealed on the World of Warcraft forums if you choose to post. You can keep your identity confidential by refraining from activity on the forums.

Also, if you do not want others to know your identity in-game, then you can simply refrain from accepting or sending Real ID friend invitations in-game.

I hope that you'll opt not to leave us, but that's a decision that you'll have to make for yourself after all the facts are in. It might be a good idea to check and see how much this will truly affect you prior to making such a decision though.

Let's please leave aside 'real world' analogies. They rarely truly reflect the situation, and in some cases invite the kind of discussion which will detract from your point and derail the thread.

I guess the rules are going to need to be changed or am I misunderstanding what is going on?

No, just for the sake of clarity, it's still not okay to post someone else's personal information such as telephone numbers, addresses, email addresses, etc.

I only made the earlier posts in this thread to clarify some potential misconceptions. Ultimately, this is not the right locale for a discussion about these upcoming changes. Alternatively, if you'd like to add your voice to a constructive discussion of Real ID and the forums, please feel free to do so via our Suggestions forum.

There are also ongoing discussions on our General forum in which you can participate. I will be locking this thread for now.
