As far as I've been able to find, if you want to disable automatic enrollment in Real ID you need to log in to your battle.net account and set up parental controls on your own account.
If you don't post on the forums and don't give your Real ID to anyone it is Blizzard's intent to not expose your real name to anyone. Blizzard will have a user agreement you need to click on before you can post in the forums. But agreeing with the intention of just reading posts it's possible some may forget about it as time goes by and post before they remember their real name will display. Especially for those of us who have been playing WoW for years and clicked on many Agreements.
I would recommend that anyone who knows they do not want to participate in the Real ID function set up parental controls to disable automatic enrollment. You can enroll in Real ID at a later time from the parental controls section if you want to participate.
