Is it me or has massive amounts of hacking occurred within the last few days?

I for one had my account hacked over the weekend.

While I understand 100% that the compromise came on my end... I have a few basic questions....

Does Blizzard prosecute or perform an investigation on the people or ip addresses hacking the accounts?

It seems the only way to guarantee that your account is not hacked is to use the authenticators. Shouldnt these authenticators come as a stock item in the world of warcraft game purchases now?

I am a father of two children between the ages of 8 and 12 who enjoy playing the game... They may not be the level 80 elite raiders but its a video game to them that they enjoy. I know many of my sons friends that are also beginning to play the game. What's the advice to parents when their kids come to them and say my account is not working anymore? And they find out it was compromised? When I walk into my local target or wal mart the box on the shelf does not say.... warning you should use an authenticator or risk your account being stolen.

And i can tell you this if one of my kids did come to me and tell me there was a problem and I called the support number and the response was too busy call back later or I was told we will restore service in a week because thats the average age of tickets, my simple solution would be to call credit card company and have the charges halted because a represenative of the company could not be reached.

While I understand the problem lies on the individuals computers, one of Blizzard's core values is “Blizzard polish” doesn’t just refer to our gameplay experiences, but to every aspect of our jobs. We approach each task carefully and seriously. We seek honest feedback and use it to improve the quality of our work. At the end of the day, most players won’t remember whether the game was late -- only whether it was great.

With the amount of feedback I see posted on compromised accounts its doesnt seem like these players will remember the game the way Blizzard wants it to based on 1 of their core values.

I respect the game you developed, and the amount of resources it must eat up just to fix the problems these hackers are causing but it seems like something further needs to be done besides suggesting you buy an authenticator.

Just my two cents. I respect everyone's opinions and want to hear what others have to say.

Q u o t e:
Can any of the men in blue comment on whether I should email account admin again concerning the account ban but my emails that the characters have been restored? I dont want to call and become a pain in the butt. I figured it would have worked the other way around... Account ban lifted then characters restored.

If your restoration is complete the the ban isn't lifted, emailing would be the next proper course.

We quite often process those together, but this may be something Account Admin needs to review.

You can email them at [email protected]. The only departments you can contact by phone are Billing and Tech, and they can't review this I'm afraid.
