Can we stop with the Extremism?

I'm really tired of reading about identity theft, murder incidents and other mostly irrelevant shenanigans. Bringing up such extreme circumstances only weakens the core argument here. Stick to the big guns:

Real ID sucks because anonymity is good for the internet.

I don't want random people facebooking me.
I don't want to be google'd and see a bunch of wow posts come up with my name.
There is a reason I don't have personal likes/dislikes etc. on my facebook, I don't want people knowing this information without actually getting to know me. Whether it be a friend or an employer, this kind of information is something that should be received through me or by word of mouth.

And most importantly, I want to be called by my alias because this is a video game. Aliases are part of what makes online gaming great, and it's really not so much different from why we need rp names on rp realms. If I want to develop a real-life relationship with someone I should have the freedom to lift the anonymity veil myself, and not have blizzard do it for me.

Moreover, to say that real ID is optional, is to say that I no longer have access to the forums. It was bad enough that we didn't implement cross-realm/faction/game chat without using real ID, and now you're going to spit in my face by taking the forums away?

Finally, as many mvps have already pointed out--implementing real ID does not make a bad troll any less bad.
