So earlier.. I got a whisper from an obvious hacker. What they did was this.

[Hacker]: Hello!

After that, they used the space bar to make it appear like a separate person whispered me.

[Game Master]GM: Yada yada yada (forgot what they said here).

I clicked on the [Game Master] to double check that it was fake.

Fellow players, stay strong and report this! Only trust somebody whispering you if they have the Blizzard icon by their name.

It's not new, but thanks for helping to spread awareness! Those are phishing scams, and if you should run across this kind of messaging, please use the right-click Report Spam option to report it! Not only does that issue an immediate report, but it also issues a temporary /ignore to all characters on the offending account until you relog.

Thanks for helping to keep World of Warcraft clean!

I will contact a GM, and I had thought posting this on the forums could be helpful.

While it isn't possible to report the individual responsible via the forums, this post isn't useless. it will help alert those who might otherwise not have been exposed to this kind of phishing attempt. Also, while an in-game petition is less useful than a Report Spam report for this kind of thing, you can send a copy of the malicious url you were sent to [email protected] as well, so our investigators can have a look.
