Talent "choices"

Since I'm not cool enough to have a beta invite or something, and can't post over there, I think this needs to be brought to attention.

Improved Sprint I will grant you doesn't have a lot of use in PvE.

But Improved Kick and Improved Recuperate do. Improved Kick will be of situational use on bosses that can't be silenced, but Improved Recuperate will keep you alive. In a world where healer mana will be much more precious, minimizing wasted mana is going to be a bigger deal.

We're not going to make trees where every point in a dps tree is a dps upgrade. Those are the kinds of talent builds we're trying to get away from, because they remove player choice. We are trying to engineer points in all trees where you have to choose between non-dps talent A and non-dps talent B, because as soon as A or B leads to dps, then the choice goes away.

Okay, I'll grant you that choosing talents is nice, it really is. So why isn't it like this for the other two trees? I'd like to pick up improved Expose Armor as an assassination rogue, except you've kind of made that impossible for me since everything in that tier and further has a very specific dps increasing talent that I should take. Instead I'm stuck with the choice of Blackjack or imp evisc. I'm not going to use Evisc, so I guess it's Blackjack. Oh look, there's imp EA! Oh, I can't take it because I need these dps increases.

If you want to do these choices for non-dps talents, you need to design the trees better. Having a tier where there are only 2 dps increasing points, then you spend the next 3 where you like is awesome, getting to a tier with no low point dps increases and having to spend them in filler just to get further down is not awesome.

I seriously doubt any of the trees that have been previewed are going to get completely overhauled before cata.

I don't doubt it at all. ;)
