Blackwing Lair Down

Got kicked from outlands on BWL with a "world server down" message. Afterwards I can't even get past the realm selection screen. Connecting to Blackwing Lair results in no error, just kicks back to the realm selection page.

Thank you, Vrakthris, I look forward to seeing this realm back up and running - or at least find out what the problem is. :)

I'm not certain if I'll be able to get a cause but we will certainly be getting the realm back online as soon as possible. It shouldn't be any longer than 30 minutes but I will let you know as soon as I as I get an update.

Update:

It looks like the attempts to resolve the issue without a realm restart were unsuccessful so one should be initiated shortly. This should take place in approximately 15 minutes. We'll retest once the realm comes back online.

We pay to play the game and not to stare at the login screen like some idiot. How hard is it to actually fix the server with the amount of money you're getting? seriously

Frizzie, you'll want to watch your language.

Your subscription actually pays for access to your account, not a specific character or realm. That isn't to say that we don't want to make sure that everyone can access the realm of their choosing and play with as much stability as can be managed but to say that the amount of money a company makes should allow something as unpredictable as a computer system to run perfectly or be easily fixed by putting dollar bills into its CD tray is ridiculous.

I'm not certain how well behaved your system at home is, Frizzie, most systems experience issues with little or no warning. They are sometimes resolved with a restart and others seem to disappear without popping up for another day or two. Some you can figure out the cause with a little troubleshooting and some take a great deal of investigation as the "signs" of the issue only occur sporadically.

This system is far more complex then your run of the mill home PC, regardless of the amount of money made that doesn't make the complexities of these matters any simpler.

Thank you everyone for your patience thus far.

O.o

I think the Outland is just not getting enough attention. O.o

Indeed, it looks like we're back to the original message. I'll see what I can find out.

I was so hopeful. *trudges off*

Who do we talk to for free server transfers?

You are welcome to post in the Suggestion forum if you wish to make such a request, Trroy, but we don't usually facilitate the evacuation of a realm over a technical issue that will be investigated and resolved. Be it a temporary or a reoccurring issue our goal is always to resolve it completely as quickly as possible.

OK. I've just received word that some levers have been pulled and buttons presses so they are restarting the realm to pick up the adjustments. Hopefully that should resolve the matter.

thats the bigest okiedoke response I have ever seen! Since when are you an expert on server systems? I doubt you even have the slightest knowledge on how to complete the simplest task of a raid swap! Dont tell us we may or may not know what we are talking about! Cause it is simple! Hiring people that know what they are freakin doing!

Treaskorne, if you wish to dance I am more than willing to accommodate you but I'd ask that you not. If you have an issue with how I am doing my job you may write to wowgmfeedback-us@blizzard.com.

Secondly these problems arnt intermittent if im not mistaken they have been happening every thursday for the last 3 weeks.

That is kind of the definition of intermittent, Wessar.

Q u o t e:
Finally i work on server maintenance for a living and i can sympathize that they are complicated but the way you put it made it seam that blizzard think were a bunch of people that barely know how to turn on a computer.

That was not my intention, Wessar. I never once indicated that someone was stupid, as Treaskorne seems to have interpreted, ignorance may have been an appropriate word but that was directed to the one I was originally speaking to. Ignorance isn't even a negative word, it simply means "lack of knowledge", everyone has a lack of knowledge.

Given the "you make enough money, fix it" statement it seemed to me that their knowledge could be limited or they were simply ignoring facts. Throwing money at an issue isn't the best way to resolve it. Our technicians aren't simply sitting around going, "gosh, we could fix this if only someone would buy the part". Though you may not be familiar with our systems, Wessar, I'm certain that your experience gives a good understanding on how complex finding and fixing an issue can be and how similar symptoms do not always mean it is the same issue or have the same resolution. That is all I was trying to express.
Q u o t e:

Just for closure, the server seems to be working now, thanks blue <3

Thank you, Mystikal, it is much appreciated. Our Realm Technicians will continue to monitor the situation but if this happens again please feel free to post here and I'll provide what updates I can.

For now I'll be locking this thread.
