Reduce Flaming/Trolling?

One of the main purposes of the whole Real ID mandation (perhaps the only real purpose) is to reduce the amount of flaming and trolling on the forums. Let's examine how effective that will be.

Trolling - Do you really think a troll is going to care if someone knows they did it? Trolling is so commonplace that people generally just brush it off and move on, and even if they see that person posting in another thread they don't care too much. Putting a name to them isn't going to do anything. Heck, I bet that some people only troll because they don't find meaningful discussion to be interesting or entertaining.

Flaming - You think it will reduce flame wars and hatefulness? Say someone posts about a sensitive topic on a forum (sexuality, religious views) and doesn't want it carried on to another forum (nowadays they can just switch to another toon). But, for whatever reason, someone hates them for their view and decides to make a huge deal out of it on every thread they post. Or perhaps someone's name itself isn't something they want people knowing - for example, I know a person whose last name is !!!g. WIth the volume of 12 year olds populating this forums and adults with the maturity of a junior high school student, do you think that showing someone's name (if it happens to be "laughable" or odd) will help?

In the end, it can endanger our accounts and well-being, but what does it really do to help the community?
