The upcoming RealID change has sparked many heated forum posts since it was announced. I would like to make clear that this is NOT one of those posts. Instead I decided I would make a post informing people of how to help protect themselves once the change goes live.

1). First and formost understand that YOU are giving Blizzard permission to display your RealID when you accept the forum posting guidelines and the new LUA that will more then likely change when it goes live. What this means is that Blizzard will not be liable if your account gets hacked or your facebook gets spammed. This is also why all previous posts are NOT being changed as they would have to ask your permission for every post you ever made.

2). There are intelligent people out there that can figure out passwords and account names based on your RealID.

3) GET AN AUTHENTICATOR!!! I'm not sure how much I can stress this. It is $6 well spent and many smart phones get the app for free.

4) Create a new unique email account for exclusive use with Battle.Net. DO NOT use this email for any other purpose then for Battle.Net

5) Lock your social networking profiles. Limit information on your page to friends only. When accepting a friend make sure you know who they are. Many hackers out there will make fake profiles posing as Blizzard employees or other forum posters so make sure you know who you are allowing to see personal information about yourself.

6) Change your passwords. I find that a few dice and a box of Scrabble letters can make a really nice random password.

7) Do not take out your frustration on the men and women that reply to our threads in blue. This was not their decision. This affects all of Battle.Net and Warcraft is only a small part of it. This was a corporate choice and the forum support staff for all of Blizzard's games have to accept this change just as much as you.

With that said, I look forward to continuing to post and will enjoy getting to know everyone just a bit better.

To add I would like to see a way to add friends via the forums etc to help avoid compromising personal info. Perhaps even a PM type system.

Thank you for your time. If anyone has any suggestions I missed please feel free to add.

Do Not turn this into a flame fest as I am trying to simply help those that wish to continue to post.
