Blizzard, these are the dangers of Real ID

As you can see, many people are not happy with the Real ID feature on the forums. And as you read my thread, obviously I am no different.

I never planned on using your Real ID service to begin with, but now you require the use of real names to be shown using the forums? I understand you are trying to alleviate the forum trolling issue and improving the community, but resorting to a feature that forces every paying subscriber to sacrifice their privacy is going too far. But I'm not here to discuss privacy issues on this thread, as it has been discussed many times on this forum.

I'm here to discuss issues regarding account security. All an account hacker needs is someone's name especially uncommon names like Xiao Zheng. This is how easy it is for me to look up his name and buy his info with a stolen credit and THEN take over his account. If someone's account gets hacked due to your so called World of Facebook-craft, then what would all the security advice you gave us (anti viruses, authenticators, password changing) be for? Null.

And if that doesn't help, what about all of the names that Xiao Zheng added to his Real ID friends list? Like I said, all a hacker needs is a full name, and then he could hack his real id friends.

In addition to this, the reason I never liked Real ID is because knowing someone's real name, where they are from, and what they look like completely takes the fantasy out of a FANTASY game. That's the main reason I don't want people to know my name, and I don't want to know my friends names and what they look like.

I like the anonymity of using different characters on the forums. I hate the idea of people abusing it to troll. I want to change my characters and post as different people depending on my mood. I don't want my guildies to know I'm transferring to another server. I don't want people to know who my 80 toon is when I ask people about how to beat Saurfang and Festergut.

If you want to alleviate the forum trolling issue, then add stricter forum policies and ACTUALLY MODERATE your forums more and I don't mean only lurking in Customer Service and general discussion. Lock threads with blatant level 1 trolling, because that character is locked to that said person's account. If it's a trial account, trace their IP.

Real IDs aren't necessary to begin with. Why? Because if I wanted to contact my friends, I'd text message them, talk on vent, go on xfire. We don't need you to intervene and improve social networking. That's NOT your responsibility. Your responsibility is improving the games we play, improving our gaming experience, and providing us with the best service possible. Let us deal with our own issues, we don't need your help.
