EDIT: If this isnt meant to be in this forum, can one simply move it please? i dont know where it goes...

So, being stupid old me, i recently got hacked.

Now im thinking of getting a Authenticator for my Ipod Touch, but i have heard that there are several problems with it, from wiping your ipod and reverting it back to its Original Factory state, to simply not working.

along with this, there are several other problems i need to adress;

If i lose my Ipod, and therefore the authenticator, what will happen? Is there a way to see the codes even without my Ipod in my hand?

If i wipe the data on my Ipod for any reason, can i get the authenticator back (Or better yet, still see my codes?)

And, if i decide to buy a Iphone, and get rid of my Ipod, can i still find the codes?

(All of this comes down to really, is can i use the authenticator without the Ipod? Can i see it in Itunes or something?)

Thanks.

The only thing I would add to Gangor's excellent post above is a word of caution about jailbroken iPhones.

Jailbreaking is taking off security features. If you backup on your system with a jailbroken iPhone it's possible for certain types of malware to literally 'copy' your authenticator. That due to the security being removed from the phone, not an issue with the authenticator app itself.

If the phone hasn't been jailbroken, this isn't a danger or concern at all.
