Anyone? I just don't want it to work at all on my account and don't want it to inadvertantly disclose any of my personal information.

In order for two players to become Real ID friends, both players will need to add the other as a Real ID friend. To add another player as a Real ID friend, the player's full name and email address must be known. If two players do not mutually add each other as Real ID friends, neither will appear on the other's Real ID friends list.

Due to this functionality, you can opt-out of the additional features by simply refraining from adding another player as a Real ID friend. More information on Real ID can be found here: http://us.battle.net/realid/faq.html

You can also elect to set up Parental Controls on your Battle.net account. Through Parental Controls, there is option by which you can completely disable Real ID for all accounts merged with the Battle.net account. You set up Parental Controls at http://us.battle.net/parents, and can find more information here: http://us.blizzard.com/support/article/PCFAQ

Q u o t e:
Turning on Parental Controls requires me to enter an email address to send a confirmation to. I did that but have not received an email from Blizzard to that account which is my regular game account. How long does the email to me from Blizzard usually take?

It may take a few minutes (between 10 to 15, depending on how much traffic the site is receiving). In the meantime, do keep an eye on your Spam and Junk mail folders, as sometimes, depending on your email provider and filter settings, correspondence from Blizzard Entertainment will be auto-filtered to that location.

You can also use this article from the Knowledge Base for tips on how to ensure that you can receive email from Blizzard: http://us.blizzard.com/support/article.xml?locale=en_US&articleId=21485

Macstab, I understand that you are experiencing issues with Parental Controls, and I will work with you through those issues; however, in the meantime, I ask that you please keep your questions and concerns to the thread in which we are already speaking: http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.html?topicId=25559986233&sid=1

Your issues may seem similar, but could be very different in the end. As a result, by posting in various other threads, you may hinder my ability to help another player fully.

I hope this request isn't too large, and that you understand why I'm making it. :)

Syndri

If we go in game to the interface options under battle.net and uncheck the options to see prompts about adding friends to real id. Does this constitute "disabling" it.?

If I have not added anyone and I disabled the prompts to add someone. I never have to worry about this feature correct?

To my knowledge, you are absolutely correct. :)

Where are the interface options?

Hit "Esc" to bring up the Options menu.
From there, click on "Interface" and then on "Battle.net."
Uncheck "Real ID Friend Requests."

Oh, that my bad—and I'm sorry I didn't specify this sooner, Yaxley, but you need to be logged into the game to disable Real ID friend request messages.

Q u o t e:
So that will entirely disable Real ID?

It doesn't technically disable Real ID; however, with the options you selected, provided that you do not add another player as a Real ID friend, your game play should not be affected or changed in any way. Meaning, you will likely not see any effects of Real ID while in game.
