So a friend of a friend who I gave my EMail to for the upcoming RealID hacked my account(granted my password wasnt the most secure, I am forced to give out my info due to your new tool). I found out from a friend that he did it. It cost me 2 weeks of down time and he only received a 3 day ban? WTF is that about? He stole over 90k gold stripped my account 2 characters and cost me 2 weeks of down time and unable to play. Even the gold and items he stole he traded to his alt account so he was able to keep all the gold and items he took....

For all of this he only gets a 3 day ban with a warning? How is this even possible. The guy is a THIEF who used your new tool and having to give out your ACCOUNT EMAIL to steal my stuff. I just do not understand how you can let someone who STEALS THINGS back into your game.

This is why account hacking is in full bore... there is no punishment for it. This is also why you can not tell us what goes on? Because nothing is done? I mean seriously it cost me 2 weeks and he gets 3 days WTF.

The account in question was under the Char name Misconduct on Kil'Jaeden and the character that hacked me was Icangiveuhp. How is this even alright?

I'm very sorry that your game play was so affected by this compromise, Angryînch, and that you feel as though we did not fully address the matter.

I'm afraid I'm unable to comment on what actions may have been taken against another account, though. If you have any additional information you would like to provide with respect to how your account was compromised, you're welcome to email [email protected]. Also, if you would like to discuss the service you received, please feel free to email [email protected].

If you believe the restoration you received was somehow incomplete (for example: if you believe you should have received the traded gold back), please let us know. You can either send an email to [email protected], or reply directly to one of the restoration emails you received at your registered address. We'll be happy to take another look.

Try reading the terms and how it works. To be able to use RealID you need to give out your account EMAIL to be able to add people. You know... the one you arent supposed to give out...

Please note that Real ID is a completely voluntary and optional service. We understand that Real ID may not be for everyone, and so have provided means through which a player can out-out of the service.

Just to clarify, in order for two players to become Real ID friends, each player will need to add the other as a Real ID friend, something which cannot be accomplished unless the full name and registered email address of the player is known. If two players do not mutually add each other as Real ID friends, neither will appear on the other player's Real ID friends list. Due to this functionality, you can opt-out of the service by simply refraining from adding another player as a Real ID friend. You are not forced to participate.

You can also turn off Real ID friend requests, which will disable message prompts whenever another player adds you as a Real ID friend. To turn off Real ID friend requests, follow these quick steps:

  • While in-game, bring up the Game Options menu (default: Esc).
  • From there, click on "Interface" and then on "Battle.net."
  • Uncheck "Real ID Friend Requests."

If you are unhappy with this particular service or feel that it negatively affects your game play, then using these management options may be a good course of action.

I would, however, recommend that you update your registered email address (if you have not already). This is good practice after any sort of compromise. Instead of simply using a different email address, though, my advice would be to set up a completely new address. When creating this new address, make sure that the username and password are unique. Don't use a username (e.g. character name, IM screen name, profile tag) or password that you already use online.
