Recruit a Friend disaster

So I finally convinced a friend to level with me on recruit a friend today, he had his classic code ready to go for after we got our accounts linked and I thought itd be smooth sailing. I sent him the RAF email and I thought it would be all good. Not so lucky, I found out afterwards my other friend, who was helping him out at the time used the guest pass that links the two accounts on a different account accidently, and the classic CD code on the other, so here we are, not linked by recruit a friend, but my friend has spent his money on the game, used up the cd key, and now we are unable to re arrange the accounts as RAFs, this is extremely upsetting because the only reason my friend agreed to play was to level together, and I find it much to tedious to level in a group without RAF. So my question is this, is there any way we would be able to re connect the accounts without my friend having to go out and buy another game?

Billing can quite possibly assist with this.

Am I understanding correctly that the RAF trial itself is not on his account - but the upgrade is?

If that's the case, I'd recommend sending him another RAF and contacting billing.

They can probably adjust it as is, but that may be simpler.
