What on earth is this "Real ID"?

Im so confused, I know it's about being able to communicate to people cross server or whatever, but can someone please explain this to me, because I have no idea how this thing works. is it optional? do i HAVE to use it? how do I use it exactly?

Those links should answer just about anything you need to know about Real ID. Using Real ID is optional.

No they won't. Real ID friend emails are not something that can be gotten through the compromise of your account.
