After hours of waiting. I finally talked to someone, and they were unwilling to help unless I could find my original cd key from years ago (vanilla), or provide the authenticator key that they stated is now clearly changed due to Blizzard's app bug (described in the previous email, at the end). I answered my "secret question", which apparently isn't worth beans, even though I was asked it.

The alternative is faxing my driver's license, which I'm not going to do (that's one step away from asking for my full SSN). I offered my pistol permit as an alternative, as that doesn't have any info that couldn't be obtained normally. I even offered to provide my credit card info that I use to pay with. I have full access to my email, and could provide detailed info about my account. Negative. No use. The rep even admitted that the app was probably broken when ATT reset my internet connection to test connectivity issues in my area.

The only thing the rep could do was cancel my account for me. I will contact my credit card company and have the last billing be wiped as fraud, if the charge isn't prorated as of today's date (standard procedure for any termination of an agreement where the provider cannot meet reasonable terms of service provision).

/Anyone considering using Blizzard's iphone app as an authenticator, should be aware that it may be an issue down the road if you don't have your original cd key still laying around.

Q u o t e:
I don't remember seeing anything in the terms and conditions, requiring that I provide a copy of my driver's license to play WoW, but I respect your point.

Best of luck to you as well.

To play, no. We do sometimes require specific information in order to ensure that the person we are talking to is the registered user of the account. There is also the following section of the Terms of Use.
Q u o t e:

Establishing an Account.
Prior to (or in lieu of) creating a user account on the Service (a "WoW Account"), or using an existing WoW Account, you may be required to establish a separate account (a "Blizzard Account") on Blizzard’s centralized account system. When creating these accounts, you may be required to provide Blizzard with certain personal information, financial information and an unused Authentication Key provided to you by Blizzard. You agree that you will supply accurate information to Blizzard when requested, and that you will update that information promptly after it changes.

The Authenticator is intended to be for an added level of protection for players in securing their account. The steps required to remove one when you no longer have access to it are not intended merely to inconvenience you, Laotsu, but it is important to point out that if it was easy to remove it that would severely diminish the effectiveness of the device.

Honestly, providing a copy of your ID provides one thing that we do not already have. Your drivers license number. It should also be noted that this is the same form of identification that should be asked for when making any credit card or debit card purchase.

If you change your mind and decide to provide the requested information you should be able to use the following support article.

The Authenticator is a good option for added security but it is important to write down the serial number for the application as a precaution. If you had the serial number, in addition to the other identifying information (i.e. Security question/answer) we should have been able to remove it for you by phone.

Again, I am sorry for what obvious frustration this has caused you, Laotsu, I wish you all the best in where ever you go from here.
