Is it against the rules to automate remote AH access? If so, what specifically is banned?
Assuming I was sitting at my keyboard, I could scan the neutral AH every 2 mins looking to catch someone at xfering items cross faction. I could also, probably, set up a script to automatically scan the AH every 2 mins for me, looking for all items posted at 1s or less and buy them all.
Alternately, I have Quick Auctions 3 set up to automatically cancel and repost every auction I get undercut on. Since this functionality can be done in game, would it be legal to automate such a process using the remote AH?
Or, if buying / selling are against the rules, could I set up a script to scan the AH every 2 mins looking for rare items, then play a sound if/when they come up at a reasonable to alert me to buy out the auction "manually"?
I was looking around for a good hour this afternoon, but couldn't find any Blizz response to what, exactly, is or is not allowed with scripting the neutral AH.
Finally, even if any of these things are against the TOU, how could you possible catch someone at it if they do it smartly? Hypothetically, couldn't someone set up a bot to interact with the remote AH with realistic delays on the mouse triggers? Assuming the bot "sleeps" for 8 hours every night, how could you catch people doing this? It's not like a GM can open a chat box to make sure there's a person at the computer...
Anyway, thanks for your time. If it's legit, this seems like it might be a fun programming exercise. =D
