You know how parents really want to trust their kids, right? Well, I merged both my and my younger son's accounts onto one battle.net account because he didn't have an e-mail address. I really thought he was smart enough (or at least scared enough of my wrath) to not give into those site invites from gold sellers. Boy, was I wrong. He didn't buy anything and I'm not sure exactly which site he went to, but regardless, our account got hacked. He no longer has access to his account as I have changed the PW and added an authenticator.

I'm so grateful to Blizzard for their understanding and help with getting our guild back together and all of my characters' stuff, too. They did it all in less than 2 weeks. As far as I can tell, it's all there, too.

THANK YOU, BLIZZ!!!!!

Don't be too hard on him - he may have just fallen for a phishing scam. I'm very glad that we were able to help you recover your account though, and that everything appears to be secure again.

I hope that you both enjoy World of Warcraft together for a long time to come.

Mary, may I suggest to you a fantastic tool called the Parental Control?

Should answer any questions.

Indeed, a potentially useful tool!

The banning of the internet was for shock value. Of course he will be allowed back onto it, but he must EARN our trust again to do so. We sat down with him over the weekend and had a long parent/child talk about the hazards of what can be out there. He's a smart kid. I think he gets the picture. I think he will probably earn his access back within the next few weeks.

He has his own e-mail address now and we'll get him his own battle.net account with it. He may have to start over with new characters, but he'll think that's ok. I don't think he was too attached to the other ones yet.

Thanks for all of the input, folks. For those of you who don't have kids yet, don't worry.... you'll get yours! LOL!!!!!

It's great to hear that you're taking a personal hand and communicating on the subject. Educating one's offspring about the nature of the online world and how best to deal with it is of great importance, and I'm glad that this has become an opportunity to educate.
