Hey there, Debugging! Thanks for bringing this matter to our attention.
What occurred was most certainly a bug of some sort. We're not entirely sure what caused it, but we're still tossing around some theories. One possibility, for example, is that the game briefly thought that everyone's rolls tied. In these situations, when a tie occurs, another "tie-breaking" roll takes place that is not visible, and the winning player is chosen based on that roll. It's possible that something similar happened here and ultimately allowed the other player to win the item.
