Suspension

I am writing my wifes account to ask why I got suspended server is Alexstrasz, toon name pompus. Last night I was booted off of the game and sent an email saying I have received a 72 hour suspension for: Terms of Use Violation -- Exploitative Activity: Abuse of the Economy. The email stated I sold gold for real world money. This is completely untrue. The only thing ive done is after 2 years of playing I made use of the auction house and sold a lot of junk in the guild vault (im the guild leader). Between running instances and Auction house I had enough for the fast flying mount. A day later im suspened. Does this happen to anyone else? Is it because of the amount of stuff I had on the auction house or the spending of the gold on fast flight? Seems thats the point of the game. I have invested a lot of money between monthly bills, buying the game 3 times, and faction change and server change, only to be suspended. Will this happen when I try to get the 19k elephant? Or buy a hog on the auction house? No one will talk to me, not even the telephone number suports ingame suspensions. What are my options besides blindly sending an email and hope someone responds?

Fortunately, at least with a cursory examination, it would appear that your account is secure.

If you believe that this account action was applied in error, please submit an email to [email protected]. I realize that this can feel like 'blindly sending an email', but it really is the only appropriate point of contact regarding this kind of dispute, and our staff will be sure to review your case carefully.

It is never our intention to suspend an innocent player, after all.

Good luck!

Its like someone robbing a bank then buying gas with the money 1000s of miles away,,,, do we stop the gas station from using the bank? It seems more logical to give the loot back to the seller, the gold to buyer and ban the buyer from the game, not the person playing the game honestly. again i understand security, but say its security, not that im violating something when im not

I tend to dislike real world examples, as they are inevitably inaccurate or raise unrelated questions. (Please note: like all analogies this is imperfect, and it would be wise not to make too much of the specifics) Still, it might help to think of it more like an illegal international money laundering and stolen property sales ring. You've got one guy who is a 'fence' who distributes cash and items to many others, who in turn disseminate those goods to yet others, and so on, so and forth in a complex web. These guys all have hallmarks as well, say... black coats and sunglasses?

When a police organization is tracking all these hundreds of miscreants, an innocent fellow - one happening to also wear a black coat and sunglasses - also during a particular time frame happens to unknowingly interact with this organization thus making him look exactly like one of their agents! So, unfortunately, that one fellow gets caught up in the dragnet designed to shut down the entire arm of an organization. If the dragnet is to work properly, the officers can't afford to stop and interrogate every suspect either - the intelligence they've gathered almost never leads them astray, after all!

That could be a good way to conceptualize how an otherwise innocent player might get drawn into a suspension.

Just to reassure you, normal use of the auction house isn't likely to result in this kind of situation, and a suspension is never applied for 'no reason'. Thank you for your patience and understanding in the meantime - I know situations like this can provoke some anxiety, but it's also necessary for our staff to review the situation.
