24hr Maintenance - sup?

First off, this is not a QQ post :D

I'd like to know, what has happened in the past 24hrs? It intrigues me to know what the devs & others are doing to the servers.

Is it just hardware? Is it, software? Did they make changes to complete server farms and that's why most of the realms had to go down? Why was it only the PVP realms that went down?

Was it bigger hdd's? faster CPUs? Why would they need to do these upgrades? etc etc.

Sorry for the misunderstanding, Doubledots, but I can assure you that it was not simply a PvP realm upgrade.
