Mid air advertising

They are at it again. Advertising gold buying websites with toons lying on the ground and in mid air in Orgrimmar on Hellscream right now. I personally am getting sick of seeing this every day. These kind of hacks need to be stopped in my opinion. I put in a petition but who know how long it will take a GM to read it. I figured i would post it here too. I don't know how bad this problem is on other servers but this has become an everyday occurence on Hellscream.

Is there an easier way to report them other than putting in a petition?

edited for spelling error....Need more coffee b4 I post so early in the morning.

These sorts of advertisements are best reported via in-game petition, Taurestro, or sending an email to [email protected]. If you (global "you," since this applies to anyone who might see such an advertisement) are willing to open one, that would be deeply appreciated.

Within your petition, just be sure to include the name of the city in which the advertisement is located and the phrase "body spam" (i.e. "There's body spam in Orgrimmar. They're flying in mid-air!"). We're keeping an eye out for these types of reports and will do our best to respond swiftly. :)

Well I am up to 7 whispers now and they are at it again for the 7th time that i've saw today. (I was in a random dungeon on my alt for a while so iI don't know how many I missed). I guess I will have to go get the badboy add on I'm getting really tired getting the whispers. I got one last night on a heroic rotface attempt. They are getting real annoying.

I absolutely understand your frustration, Taurestro, and I'm sorry these sorts of malicious individuals are lessening your enjoyment of World of Warcraft.

Out of curiosity, are you reporting these messages using the right-click, "Report Spam" feature? If so, thank you! Believe it or not, these reports actually help us greatly. We're always looking for ways to improve the in-game experience, and part of that endeavor includes trying to limit player contact with malicious and/or advertising parties. Unfortunately, it's a delicate science, as many of the accounts responsible for whisper spam are actually compromised. =/

With that said, you may want to look into picking up an AddOn that completely moderates incoming chat to your characters. BadBoy and SpamMeNot are definitely popular favorites, but you can also inquire on our UI & Macros forum for other recommendations.

You saying it's a good thing to go to another website download an addon (that can lead to trouble) to stop ingame spamming?

I'm saying it's an option that Taurestro might want to investigate further, particularly if it could possibly improve the quality of his or her game play. Both AddOns listed are currently permitted by Blizzard Entertainment.

Q u o t e:
If these programs help please tell me why Blizzard does not provide these addon's within the game it's self?

We provide several self-help options like the "Report Spam" feature that satisfy many players (but not all). For those who are seeking something more or simply different, a permitted AddOn might be able to compensate.

The reason we sometimes mention using AddOns to help block incoming spam is not to "pass the buck." We do this because we know that these types of advertisements can really detract from some players' in-game experience. Though we're doing all we can on our end to help remove these types of advertisements from the game, it's no easy task, and some forms exploitation slip through. By educating players on ways to help block advertisements on their own, we're offering a means by which they may continue to enjoy the game to its fullest.

If you feel that our in-game UI and features could be more robust, though, be sure let us know by posting the Suggestions forum. We'd love to hear from you. :)
