A Stolen account is not a Hacked account

We as WoW players commonly refer to a stolen account as a hacked account, that being said read on..

Blizzard systems for accounts have never been compromised, they are not responsibly for an account getting stolen. I did not use hack because a keylogger is not hacking your account, its just getting stolen using a tool that is used for theft and generally occurs when you click a phishing link on an e-mail or a fake site like the Fake Armory site off Google or the new one for MMO-Champion.com on Google. The other common way is that you used your b.net e-mail and the same password for your b.net account on a website that is questionable. The last one is a duh move. i.e gold site or a hacks for wow site.

Sorry hacking accounts won't happen, sure you have an authenticator and your account is stolen that way but thats still just a trojan, and is still not getting hacked off the Blizzard site.

So when when your account is stolen your title should be:

Unauthorized Authenticator or My account was stolen.

not

My account was hacked help! or any combination of hacked with CAPS LOCK on.

Your account is truly hacked when Blizzard says hey our authentication server was compromised and they say in a formal message on the homepage we got hacked, we are working to restore everyone affected. Hacked is a strong term so they will more then likely use compromised. but they mean the same thing :)

I know it really sucks when this happens my brother has had it happen to him before, I don't use my e-mail address attached to my account for anything other than WoW, and an authenticator help allot.

The approval to post that, Nicoderm? I don't see anything inherently wrong with the thread except it doesn't seem to be helpful to quibble about the term used. People who have had their account compromised don't care if you call it a Snafflebaconspanner, their account is still compromised and they are still missing things that they worked for. The frustration is still very real and the wait times to have it addressed aren't always conducive of getting back into the game quickly.

Unauthorized authenticator added.

Will get more attention than lets say

OmG MY AcCOuNT WAS HAcKED HeLP

True, though it really isn't necessary to create a post if your account has been compromised. You simply need to follow the instructions located in the following sticky.

Account Hacked? Security Issue? Look Here!

If you post here indicating that your account was compromised that is the advice that we will provide. :)

Will Blues read a thread if they already see a Blue has already responded to it? I ask this because Malkorix posted in my thread once already but it didn't really answer my question and I haven't seen a blue reply since.

At times, Soultar, it depends. Most of the time if a thread has been responded to already we will gravitate towards unanswered threads or threads we have been watching.

"omg my account was just snafflebaconspanner'd! HALP!"

That would get some attention.

I propose we change the term to snafflebaconspanner.

Stuff with bacon in it always get more attention. :D
