Plans for Cross-server Heirloom Mailing?

I tried doing a search as I seem to recall a Blue talking about something to do with the possibility of at some point being able to mail heirlooms to your characters on another server, but since I had no luck (my search-fu is weak) I thought I should ask here.

So, in short, are there any plans for us to be able to mail heirlooms cross-server? This would be greatly helpful for alts, as Blizzard seems to be reluctant to add additional character slots to servers, and after playing for so long all my servers are pretty much full.

Sorry if this has been asked before, I could not find anything on it.
