Make them able to be removed online. It's bogus that we have an option to invest into a device that may compromise an account. At least when your pw is changed, you can change it back. How would a keylogger know you are resetting your pw?

It sucks when you already buy 3+ expansions just to need to add more $ for added security.

So, so much misinformation in this thread.

Q u o t e:

If you have your Authenticator in your possession, they are very easy to remove online. On the other hand, allowing their removal online if you do not have the Authenticator in your possession would be a substantial blow to the security that they offer. Fortunately, if you took the measure of writing down your Authenticator's serial number, our staff can still readily lend a hand via telephone or email, even if you've lost your Authenticator fob or the mobile device that your Mobile Authenticator was attached to.

Conversely, there are three different methods you can use to remove an Authenticator that has been maliciously applied to your account. You can call our Account Services staff directly, send an email to Account Services via [email protected], or create a thread or join an existing thread on our Technical Support forum (though please note that only maliciously applied Authenticators may be dealt with via the forum).

Here is the contact information for our Account Services staff:

Authenticators do not compromise an account. Ever. Period.

Period. Never. Ever. They lack the ability to functionally compromise an account. This is akin to saying that the lock on your door robbed your house. =/

What players are witnessing are accounts being compromised via various standard methods - typically phishing, keylogging and the like. Then, to allow themselves more time with the account (so they can use it for their own purposes, such as perpetrating more phishing scams), the compromisers apply an Authenticator of their own. To extend the analogy I used a little earlier, they install a deadbolt on your apartment door to keep you out.

It's true that the Blizzard Authenticator carries a nominal fee, but it is sold at cost. In addition the Mobile Authenticator is offered free of charge (or at a very small cost in some cases). While not foolproof, an Authenticator adds an extremely effective additional layer of security to your account and is very worthwhile.
